Dr Dolapo Fakuade



Dolapo is a ‘Pracademic’; who maintains active professional and academic careers in emergency / disaster management. She has teaching, training and facilitating experience in the New Zealand, UK, Japan, Turkey, UAE, Bulgaria, Thailand, Jordan, and other countries. Prior to completing a PhD in Hazard and Disaster Management at the University of Canterbury (UC), she led, worked, and advised on different emergency management, response, disaster resilience, and community-focused projects in different countries in Europe, Middle East, and Asia, working in collaboration with first response agencies and UNESCO. After completing her MSc in Disaster Management at Coventry University UK, she volunteered with the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Resilience Partnership in 2012 to review and recommend personal resilience measures that enhance capabilities for response in cities and county mentioned. In addition to the recommendations, she designed a training package for the partnership used to teach communities in high risk and hazard-prone areas.

From 2014 to 2017 she worked at the University of Canterbury (UC) to support and lead a DRM capacity development programme for senior government officials in ASEAN countries. As required on the project funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), she designed series of disaster response capacity development courses, as well as facilitated and taught courses during the programme.

In 2016, ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Centre (AHA Centre) trainees voted Dolapo as one of the best facilitators of the 6-month ACE programme taught and delivered by different international organizations including the UN, WHO, Red Cross to mention a few. During the ACE programme, she delivered two training workshops on; enhancing emergency response through leadership theories and styles, and exercise design and management; a mechanism for improving readiness for response. Part of her role at the Centre for Risk, Resilience and Renewal at UC also included leading the partnership between UC and Singapore Civil Defence Forces (SCDF). During this period, she co-designed the ‘Leadership Programme in Disaster Management’ (LPDM) with SCDF and taught a couple of sessions of the programme in Singapore.

Dolapo is currently developing an EM capability development framework for Otago Civil Defence and Emergency Management (CDEM), one of the Civil Defence groups in New Zealand.
